PARIS, France: Signaling further disruptions for summer travelers, workers at Roissy-Charles de Gaulle Airport said they would go on strike from 8th to 10th July to press for higher wages.
Emboldened by booming demand for air travel, along with staff shortages caused in part by the COVID-19 pandemic, ground staff at the French capital's main international hub have staged a series of strikes to demand wage increases, which they claim would cushion the effects of inflation.
However, France's civil aviation authority said fewer strike-related disruptions were expected.
A union representative told Reuters that airport operator ADP had offered a 4 percent pay raise in a bid to end an ongoing strike, but workers rejected the offer.
"A majority of workers think the offer is not good enough. They do not trust management and they do not accept the 'it is this or nothing' blackmail," said Daniel Bertone, CGT union representative, as quoted by Reuters.
"We notified the management of a new strike plan from the 8th until the 10th of July," he added.
From 13th to 17th July, staff of Paris airports' subcontractors plan additional strikes.
This weekend, one in five morning flights were canceled, but Air France said it maintained all of its long distance flights and 90 percent of its mid-distance schedule.
