BEIJING, April 18 (Xinhua) -- Here are the latest Chinese sports headlines from the past week:
1. China to send 171 athletes to Asian Beach Games in Sanya
China announced a 255-member delegation on April 15, including 171 athletes, for the 6th Asian Beach Games Sanya 2026.
The Chinese delegation will compete in 60 events across 13 sports, excluding beach kabaddi, marking the country's highest participation rate at the Asian Beach Games.
The Sanya Games, scheduled for April 22 to 30, will feature 14 sports, 15 disciplines and 62 events, with the aim of promoting tourism and international exchanges. It marks the second time China has hosted the Games, following the 2012 edition in Haiyang, Shandong Province.
The Games will also be the first major international sporting event since the Hainan Free Trade Port fully launched island-wide special customs operations last December.
2. China dominates ISSF World Cup in Granada with double gold finish
Chinese shooters concluded the ISSF World Cup in Granada with a dominant performance on April 12, as Zhang Changhong and Wang Zifei respectively won the men's 50-meter rifle 3 positions and women's 10-meter air rifle titles.
Olympic medalist Zhang, 26, delivered a remarkable comeback in the men's 50m rifle 3 positions final, sealing victory with 358.8 points. He moved up the rankings during the standing phase to take control and secure his first World Cup title.
In the women's 10m air rifle final, Wang, 19, rallied from fourth place to claim her second gold of the Granada World Cup with 252.9 points.
As the World Cup in Granada concluded, China topped the medal table with eight gold, three silver and two bronze medals.
3. Shi claims men's singles title at Badminton Asia Championships
China's Shi Yuqi claimed the men's singles title at the 2026 Badminton Asia Championships on April 12, securing his first crown at the continental event.
Shi faced India's surprise finalist Ayush Shetty in the final. Despite Shetty's efforts, Shi's clinical play saw him cruise to a 21-8, 21-10 victory.
In the women's doubles final, top-ranked Chinese pair Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning were forced to withdraw due to injury just seven minutes into the match, handing the title to compatriots Li Yijing and Luo Xumin.
4. Wang Wenjie refreshes China's half-marathon best result
Chinese runner Wang Wenjie won the 2026 Beijing Half Marathon with a national best result of 1:01:15 on April 12.
The 21-year-old from Tsinghua University cut 31 seconds off the previous mark set by Yu Shuiqing last year.
Wang kept his lead throughout Sunday's race, while his compatriots Li Jinhao and Wang Qi finished second and third, respectively.
On the women's side, Xu Shuangshuang clocked a winning time of 1:09:54, followed by fellow Chinese runners Xia Yuyu and Liu Min on the podium.
5. China claims four titles at WTT Contender Taiyuan
Chinese paddlers secured four titles at the WTT Contender Taiyuan, winning the men's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles events as the competition concluded on April 12.
In the women's doubles final, China's Shi Xunyao and Han Feier defeated Doo Hoi Kem and Ng Wing Lam of Hong Kong, China, 3-1.
In the men's doubles final, China's Li Hechen and Wen Ruibo pulled off an upset, edging their compatriots Lin Shidong and Huang Youzheng, the world No. 3 pair, in a five-game thriller.
Wen returned to the court later for the men's singles final, where the 19-year-old rallied from behind to defeat Japan's Maharu Yoshimura 4-2.
In mixed doubles, China's Huang and Shi defeated Wong Chun Ting and Doo of Hong Kong, China, 3-1 to take the crown.
