NANJING, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Host China rallied from a set down to beat Poland 3-1 on Sunday, securing its third consecutive victory at the 2026 FIVB Women's Volleyball Nations League (VNL).
After dropping the opening set 25-16, China bounced back to take the next three sets 25-18, 25-23 and 26-24, finishing the Nanjing leg with a 3-1 record.
Zhuang Yushan led the host with 24 points, while Tang Xin and Li Chenxuan each contributed 11. Guo Zhongnan added 10 points and Wang Aoqian chipped in with nine.
"I'm really happy for our young players. The last two sets were neck-and-neck. We kept our composure and pulled off the win, and this experience will mean a great deal to them," said Chinese captain Gong Xiangyu, who was rested by head coach Zhao Yong along with Wang Yuanyuan.
Having beaten Belgium, the Czech Republic and Serbia in succession, Poland started strongly against China, racing to an 8-3 lead before taking the opening set 25-16.
In the second set, the Chinese women reeled off five consecutive points behind Li's powerful serving to build a comfortable 13-6 advantage before extending it to 19-8. Poland responded with a 3-0 run and later narrowed the gap to 23-17, but could get no closer.
China moved into a 7-3 lead in the third set thanks to Guo's strong serving, but Poland answered with a 6-0 run to level at 13-13. The remainder of the set was closely contested before Zhuang Yushan produced a deft dink and then blocked Oliwia Sieradzka to seal a narrow 25-23 victory.
The two sides were tied at 23-23 and 24-24 in the fourth set before a service error and a block by Guo on Monika Lampkowska secured the victory for China.
Poland, led by Julita Piasecka's 16 points, outserved China 7-3 but conceded 22 points through errors, compared with 16 by China.
In Sunday's other matches in Nanjing, the Czech Republic swept Thailand 3-0 and Belgium edged Serbia 3-2.
